How do I get the stucco off my brick?
My house has an area above some of the brick that is stucco. This was done by a previous owner whom applied it over the wood siding. it looks like it has washed on to the brick. The rest of the brick looks good. How can I clean this? Power washing did not work.
Answer: Contact a Masonry contractor- The brick needs to be acid washed to remove the chalking from the stucco. This is not a job for a homeowner. Muriatic acid is obviously very potent, and if not done correctly you could discolor the brick and mortar joints permanently.
Also the stucco finish needs to be sealed to prevent further chalking onto the brick. Stucco is a cement based product- so the masonry contractor should be able to apply a spray on clear sealer to stop this chalking.
